About this product

Product Information

The Indians in Oklahoma , a survey of the sixty-seven tribes residing in the state, explains the colonizing process that populated Indian Territory (the future Oklahoma) with American Indians from all parts of the United States during the nineteenth century and interprets the striking cultural diversity of the Indian communities thus formed. The author separates the Native American experience in Oklahoma into four periods. This book is one of a series entitled "Newcomers to a New Land" which analyzes the role of the major ethnic groups that have contributed to the history of Oklahoma.

  • Great book on the history of the Indians in Oklahoma

For those with interest in Oklahoma history and Oklahoma related Indian history, this book will be very satisfying. I usually don't recommend paperback books because I plan for my books to not only be used, but have long lives. However, not finding this book in a hardback version, Istill must recommend it because of the great job mr. Strickland did in putting the historic information together. Not only is the book full of facts (for those of us interested in truth and accuracy), but it is also presented well, so as to make the reading of it compelling and satisfying. At a good price (like I got), I highly recommend this book.

My Mother-N-Law is from Oklahoma and part indian. Her interest were in the kichapoo tride and the book mentioned them twice. She enjoyed the book and I'm sure she recognized the areas mentioned and learned from the book.
