  • A wonderful piece of americana

I purchased this book at as library sale in the 80's. I have taken it with me everytime I've moved. This story is timeless. It covers several generations of women and the times that they lived in. All against a backdrop of small-town living, and the political events that took place. It is a very long book, but you find yourself not wanting to put it down. I highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in historical events in our country, but told in a fictional, lighter way. From the point of view of the characters living in the moment it was happening. I truly wish this could be made into a movie.

  • And Ladies of the club

I read this book once before in my life and I loved it so much that I wanted to read it again even if it over a 1000 pages. It is filled with so many events that Helen Hooven Santmyer lived through in her life. It is about women who daringly made of a literary club. Also it is about women's sufferage. It tells about each of their lives and struggles. I would highly recommend this book. You won't be able to put it down. Jane Stotmeister

  • Title; "And the Ladies of the Club"

I read this book many years ago and loved it. I lost my copy, so I'm glad to have it again. It starts in the 1860s and is about women who form a reading club. The story focuses on these women through the 1920s. I highly recommend it.
