The Spark of Youth…The Thrill of Desire….
From the back of the book, we read: What is the invigorating appeal of the younger man? Is it his boyish charm, his enthusiasm for life? His appreciation of a woman’s experience, and his eagerness to learn more? Or perhaps it’s his vigor, his unending appetite, and his willingness to please. In this scintillating quartet of stories by four of today’s most popular romance writers, the answers are discovered in a younger man’s embrace…in tender promises of pleasure whispered behind closed doors…in the hunger of his deep, soft, candlelight kisses…and in his ability to reawaken in his lover the joyous simplicity of a past innocence. ‘A Man Who Can Dance’ by Cathy Maxwell: A tale of a 30+ governess and a 20 something younger man. They fall in love and while this is a nice story, it doesn’t have a lot of sizzle. IMO this story falls short of my expectations for the type of story one would expect to find in this anthology since the heroine is without ‘experience’. This is a nice read but nothing exceptional. ‘Forevermore’ by Lauren Royal: The heroine now aged 32 and widowed, suffered physical, emotional and possibly sexual abuse at the hands of her much older and now deceased husband; the abuse is only mentioned to provide the necessary background to understand the heroine’s actions. When she meets our 23-year old hero, she is reluctant to allow their relationship to progress beyond a simple courtship. Our hero is persistent and wins her over, finally convincing her to marry him and living happily ever after. I enjoyed this story and look forward to reading the ‘Jewel Trilogy’ by Miss Royal where these characters were first introduced. But again, I don't believe this story lives up to the 'Back of the Book' statements. ‘Written in the Stars’ by Jaclyn Reding: This is a pleasant story in which our heroine is beleaguered by a 400-year old family curse. She believes in order to avoid the curse handed down in said story, she must marry a man younger than herself. Unfortunately, our hero was born on the same day as she (February 28th) and is older than her by a few hours…or so they all believe. As it turns out, our hero was actually born on February 29th…and to avoid the hassles of the leap year birthday, his parents opted to celebrate his birth on the 28th. Well, this solves the problem because now Tristan is younger, by one day than his beloved Harriet. Again, a good story, but fails to meet the challenge set forth on the back of the book. ‘The Demon’s Mistress’ by Jo Beverley: This story is also found in Miss Beverley’s book ‘Three Heroes’ which is tied in to her ‘Company of Rogues’ series and in my opinion the best story in this book. Of all the stories, this is the ONLY ONE which I feel best lives up to the description from the back of the book. The widowed heroine is 8 years older than our hero. They meet when Maria visits ‘Van’ Vandeimen. Maria feels compelled to right a terrible wrong done to Van’s father by her deceased husband who caused Van's father to lose the family fortune and then commit suicide. She discovers Van, very despondent and drunk, with a loaded pistol in his hand. She assumes she has interrupted a suicide attempt. She makes him an offer he can’t refuse with payment enough to help him re-establish his family home and to set his life on the right track. The story is good reading and really does have a happy ending. This story alone makes this book worth reading & worth the 'good' rating.

These were all average to good, except for the Jo Beverly story, which was excellent. It is very nice to read stories about Regency women who are not 17 with heart shaped faces.
