About this product

Product Information

In May 1996, two commercial expedition groups attempted to ascend Mount Everest. Each group contained world class climbers and relative novices, some of whom had paid tens of thousands of pounds for the climb. But as the climbers neared the summit, they were overtaken by intense snow and wind, and found their crucial oxygen supplies depleted. Five of them died, including the expeditions' two charismatic leaders.

  • Incredible story, fascinating read.

I had in the past read the popular "Into Thin Air" by Jon Krakauer and found it facinating. But in that book he was highly critical of the lead guide from Mountain Madness, another expidition up on hte Everest that day. THIS book is written by/with Antolli Boukreev who was the guide in his own words. It explains a myltitude of things that MAY have been able to be done to have changed the horrific ending of one of the deadliest days on Everest thus far. Blew through the book in no time flat it was such a good read. Highly reccommend it to anyone!

  • Climb

Good reading. Different perspective than Thin Air.

  • Everest

This is one of several books on the same Everest disaster, But from a different climbers perspective.

  • A pure adventure in reading

Reading this book is an adventure in reading. This is why your first grade teacher wanted you to learn to read and immerse yourself in books. Should be required reading and I prefer it to into thin air;which was also good. Right there beside Moby Dick or The Whale on your bookshelf I hope

  • Adventure in Reading about Adventure in the Death Zone

This was an excellent read that sorted out a lot of details about the fateful climb. It's about time Anatoli was able to tell what really happened.
