Fodor's, Z.W. Pylyshyn's und Br. McLaughlin's und dem bedeutensten Vertreter des konnektionistischen Programms in der k nstlichen Intelligenz, Paul Smolensky, der mit seinem sog."Subsymbolischen Paradigma" den Anspruch erhebt, eine alternative und integrative Theorie der Kognition vorzulegen, indem die Theorie der k nstlichen Neuronalen Netzwerke auf die Kognitionswissenschaft angewendet wird. Die Debatte behandelt dabei das Problem der modelltechnischen Realisation von Information, m.a.W. die Beantwortung der Frage: Wie funktioniert die intelligente Informationsverarbeitung des Menschen? W hrend in der sog."symbolorientierten Klassischen K nstlichen Intelligenz", dem Symbolismus, interne mentale Repr sentationen als syntaktisch strukturierte Symbole betrachtet werden, wird in der sog."subsymbolorientierten K nstlichen Intelligenz", dem Konnektionismus, der Begriff der "Repr sentation" auf dynamische Vektor- und Tensorkonstruktionen aus der Theorie der K nstlichen Neuronalen Netzwerke angewendet, soda man versuchen kann kognitive Funktionen wie Produktivit t, Systematizit t, Kompositionalit t und logische Inferenz auf der Basis einer sog."vektoriellen Form" zu erkl ren, d.h. gegr ndet im Dynamischen System- und Selbstorganisations-Paradigma.
