  • Second one I bought; power surge KO;d first 1; makes fine printer-server

This is one of the few wired routers that has a parallel printer port. This comes in very handy if you still have such a printer (inkjet or laser) that you want to share with your computers, especially Macs and Linux but also any Windows flavor. It also has a WAN port (this would be your ISP - cable or DSL - but you are not required to use that port. I use mine as a standard 4 port Ethernet LAN router/switch (plus providing printer access). The IP address of the router becomes the LAN address for the networked printer.

  • D-link DI-704P-out of support, but works & inexpensive

This is an obsolete router. However my network uses static IP addressing and a print server for the platemaker. This router fits the bill very well. They do have a heat problem (some of em) as I always keep a spare on hand. My first one died (heat problem)and was replaced by #2 from ebay which is working fine. Just got #3 (ebay) as next backup unit. #3 installed and had to clone #2 MAC address to #3 as RR modem will not auto configure (DI704P has many, many, easy configurations if needed). All this means I keep a spare that is plug ready and no configuring required. I Like D-link, Love the DI-704P and MAYBE dislike the heat problem. Reviews show the heat problem and ways around it but I opted for ones that run fine in 95 degree plus temps. Most print server / routers do not have a parallel ...

  • D-Link DI-704P

What can I say I paid .99 cents for a D-link router. Works great. It's tough to go wrong with D-Link if there is one thing I have learned you need both a Hardware Firewall and a Software Firewall. It's easy to use, If you need basic security this is the way to go.

  • D-link DI-704P Router

These are fantastic. Very straight forward and easy to use. They're built like tanks and I just bought a second one for backup. There are always a couple are more availble on ebay at great prices. These are now discontinued so get one while you can.

  • Works well, linited life expectancy

I need this router to keep my old laser printer in operation. Historically the life expectancy is about 2 years of light to moderate use. It does work well and I have had as many as three computers linked to the internet (router) and my laser printer.
