My Cousin Vinny (VHS, 1992)
Funny movie with Joe Pesci as a lawyer called in to defend his young cousin (Ralph Macchio) and his best friend when they are mistakenly charged with murder in small town Alabama. The two boys were traveling across country to college when they stopped for junk food and drinks at a convenience store in Alabama. By mistake, Macchio had put a can of tuna in his coat pocket and forgot to pay for it. Within a couple of miles, the police stop them and they are arrested, he thinks for the tuna. What they don't know is that just after leaving the store, another car very similar to theirs, also a convertible, the same color with two boys inside also, stops at this store and robs and shoots the attendant killing him. Now they find out that they are in jail for murder. Cousin Vinny and his girlfriend ... She looks like a beautician/hooker and he is wearing a leather jacket looking very much the South Bronx Italian gang member. He goes in to see the judge, Fred Gywnn, and instantly runs afoul with him for the way he is dressed and his total lack of knowledge of courtroom procedure. Throughout the entire trial Vinny doesn't miss an opportunity to cross the judge. When it comes to his legal skills, other than a good grasp of common sense and the ability to argue a point, you'd think that he got his law degree from a mail-order school. But in the end, he prevails and the boys are released. The film had its funny moments, but also was a bit slapstick and ridiculous at times. It was supposed to be a comedy, but too often, Hollywood portrays the South as being nothing but a bunch of bumbling fools. Many people take offense to this.

i loved "my cousin vinny"
This movie, which like most i prefer on vhs, was a very feelgood movie for me. It contrasted the hilarious differences between some Italians from New York or thereabouts, and some traditional small town ways in Alabama. Hilarious. Just a slight bit of vulgar language from the Big City set, but mostly forgivable. The time period seems to be about the 1980's but maybe I'm wrong. A happy ending after some precarious antics, cultural misunderstandings, and comical courtroom drama.This movie, which like most i prefer on vhs, was a very feelgood movie for me. It contrasted the hilarious differences between some Italians from New York or thereabouts, and some traditional small town ways in Alabama. Hilarious. My Cousin Vinny
I bought this movie because Fred Gwynne was our neighbor & friend when we lived in Bedford, NY. It was a funny movie & typical of Mr. Gwynne's acting ability. He wanted to be Shakespearian actor but his physical appearance lent itself more to the roles he played during his career. He was very talented as an artist, sculptor, & writer in addition to his acting. He was a Harvard graduate & I believe he was editor of the Harvard Lampoon during his college years.I bought this movie because Fred Gwynne was our neighbor & friend when we lived in Bedford, NY.
