The best mini arcade cabinet on the market!
There has been a gradual improvement in the quality of mini arcades produced by the arcade heavy-hitters of the 80s and 90s (SNK (in name only these days however), Sega and now Taito), with the Astro City Mini adding proper arcade style buttons and a clicky joystick, as well as light-up marquee - that the Neo Geo Mini was lacking. Now, the Egret II Mini adds the option to change the joystick from 4-way to 8-way at will and, most importantly, the ability to push the screen out and rotate it to play in TATE mode. Plus, it's the biggest of these machines by far, and has a screen with the correct 4:3 aspect ratio (which the NGM had but the ACM lacked), with a really nice light-up marquee above it and the option to put arcade-accurate artwork cards in a plastic piece that clips onto the top ... The selection of games is also the best by far, in my opinion. I really like all the games on the NGM, and the ACM has a few that I play regularly (Virtua Fighter being its selling point), but almost every single game on the Egret II Mini is an absolute masterpiece. You can never go wrong with Puzzle Bobble, or arcade shooters like the legendary Rayforce and Darius Gaiden. This is a must buy for arcade fans! The seller I bought this from (cyberplanner4) was extremely fast with their shipment, and the unit came very nicely packaged. I did unfortunately have to pay a somewhat hefty FedEx charge but overall the price of the unit worked out cheaper than if I had purchased from Play-Asia or Amazon JP. Many thanks! I think I'll try to track down a limited edition blue version of this machine yet, just so I can have one running on attract mode while I play the other LOL

Taito's Big Grand Slam in a Small Package
The Taito Egret II Mini is one of several mini arcade cabinets that capitalize on the home arcade trend that was spawned by Arcade1Up, but unlike those cabinets, the Egret II Mini doesn't eat up much space. The best feature is the ability to change from horizontal to vertical screen orientation with a push of the monitor bezel. One thing to note is that while most of the roms are Japanese, they are still playable. The one exception to this is Cadash (an action platformer with RPG elements) where the entire dialogue is in Japanese and to fully enjoy the game, one must learn the language. A venerable treasure trove of Taito’s unique legacy
Though I’m very wary about the long term wellbeing of the rotating screen, there is a lot of retro goodness on this little system. The lit custom card marquee and shutdown chime are nice touches, as is the toggle between 8 and 4-way control (a lot of the older titles feel better with 4 directions) The screen is very bright and the audio loud (these can be lowered in settings), and the visual design and presentation of the unit itself, as well as the UI, brings the whole thing together. It was perfectly priced around $130, in my opinion.
