About this product

Product Information

"Through her art, Herrera writes, Kahlo made of herself both performer and icon. Through this long overdue biography, Kahlo has also, finally, been made fully human." -- San Francisco Chronicle Hailed by readers and critics across the country, this engrossing biography of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo reveals a woman of extreme magnetism and originality, an artist whose sensual vibrancy came straight from her own experiences: her childhood near Mexico City during the Mexican Revolution; a devastating accident at age eighteen that left her crippled and unable to bear children; her tempestuous marriage to muralist Diego Rivera and intermittent love affairs with men as diverse as Isamu Noguchi and Leon Trotsky; her association with the Communist Party; her absorption in Mexican folklore and culture; and her dramatic love of spectacle. Here is the tumultuous life of an extraordinary twentieth-century woman -- with illustrations as rich and haunting as her legend.

The book ~ The Happiness Trap, that I ordered was billed as good condition, it should have said excellent condition. There are no bent corners, the binding of the book has no creases, so it has never been opened, there are no highlighted pages. My therapist asked me to get it, & we'd go over it together, which means that I'll be able to highlight passages. The book listed at $5.04 plus tax, which came to $5.39, free shipping.

Very acceptable condition, a few scuffs that weren’t a big deal I just gently washed over them and they went away, but the book was perfectly in tact and readable! Can’t wait to see what the hype is about, very great and honest seller ! 🤍

  • This is the way all biographies should read!

Frida is an excellent tale of artist Frida Kahlo. It's a rather intimidating book, as it has quite a few pages and chronicles Kahlo's life from start to finish. However, Herrera needed every one of those pages to tell the tale of this fascinating woman whose life was anything but dull. Herrera delves into Kahlo's past, which includes a near-death experience as a teen, a tumultuous marriage to muralist Diego Rivera, an affair with Leon Trotsky, a life of pain and agony, a discovery of an aptitude for art...and the list goes on. Herrera's writing is polished and interesting, and she tells the tale of Kahlo is a way so fascinating that the book reads like a novel. I would say that this is arguably one of the best biographies ever written about one of the most important women of the last ...

  • Great Story Ever

At first when I first read it, it turned out to be boring because of how long it is until later I just found out how beautiful it was, but it because some books I read has pictures in them however the ones in the book was different because they came from the times when she made these paintings, though my favorite one is the What Water Gave Me and Henry Ford Hospital and the Two Fridas. Man I wish I could paint like that speaking of which I will let you know when I’m planning I do some art work based on it.

  • Dense on content, light on pictures.

I'm very happy to have a comprehensive book on Frida. I wasn't looking for a book that had large color reproductions of her work, which the book doesn't have, so it's perfect for me because I wanted content about her.
