About this product

Product Information

Who will want me now? It's a heart-wrenching question for teenagers infected with HIV. The number of HIV/AIDS-infected teenagers in the United States is increasing. Nearly 35,000 U.S. teenagers now have AIDS. Far more have been diagnosed with HIV, and an undetermined number have the virus and do not yet know. Each year, some 1,700 young people aged 13 to 24 are diagnosed with the ravaging end result of this infection: AIDS. In this volume, experts who work with HIV/AIDS-infected teenagers examine the psychological and social fallout compounding the frightening medical issues faced by adolescents who've received the diagnosis. Readers share the challenge with teens as they face the stigma of HIV/AIDS and the tough decisions about who to tell of their infection and when to do it. We learn the hard truth about health care, self care, and new treatment options for affected teens. And we read about the heartbreaking end-of-life care issues for dying adolescents. Perhaps most important, the authors offer resources teens and their families can turn to for information and support. And they explain what family, friends, teachers, and other professionals can do to help infected teens maximize their mental health and their quality of life.

"Beginning with a well-documented chapter by Audrey Smith Rogers on the staggering statistics of the increasing infection rate among youths, readers are guided through the mechanics of HIV transmission during adolescence. Rogers explains that HIV-infected youths differ from adults in the pathways to infection, the clinical course of the disease, and the large number of services that compose the effective, comprehensive treatment service plan. Ignorance of the means of transmission and the widespread myths that permeate the teens' social environment compound the problem for adolescents who have been seriously neglected in the typical health care programs. Rogers's portrayals are perceptive, well explained, and beautifully illustrated. The information provided will serve teens, their families, and professionals who work with both….This text is a must read for all who deal with the health and social problems of adolescents." - Psyccritiques, 'Information on disease transmission, course, and treatment is interspersed with adolescents' accounts of their experiences and related emotional and spiritual issues. Was sent the wrong item. I ordered a CD and I received an LP instead. Two different places on the description said that it was a used CD in good condition. When I emailed the seller about it I got a generic reply telling me that they would get to it when they can and that if I send a second message it will just delay the process. That is terrible customer service. If they have time to send me an email message at all then they have time to initiate a refund or to answer the question I asked.

The book arrived in a plastic envelope with not protection and unfortunately it looked like the book was damaged in transit because of it. The items original ETA was April 18th but arrived on April 22nd. I requested a refund after seeing the quality of the book and the seller responded with a full refund and an apology for the quality. I really appreciated the customer service but was sad to see the book not in the quality described.

Thank you so much for the quick response and delivery. I have not ordered from eBay in many years. You have renewed my trust that there are some professional sellers I can work with through eBay not just Amazon. Thanks again!☺️
