  • The Gregg Reference Manual by William A. Sabin (2001)

This book is a glorified high school grammar book; lots of info (half the 600 page book) on punctuation, capitalization, numbers, abbreviations, grammar, usage and more. Part 2 (230 pages) is techniques and formats, and Part 3 is references. There is a 20 page Glossary of Computer Terms in this section, but its value is limited because of the book's age. There is a section of Editing and Proofreading at the Computer, but all the examples are hand written (Microsoft Office 2007 with proofreading marks was not available then!) One very nice feature of this paperback book is that it is spiral bound; it's easy to open and fold back to use. I'd say it's a good desk reference is you're looking for verification or a quick review.

  • Where would I be without my Gregg?

As an English teacher, I have a variety of style manuals sitting on my classroom shelves at any given time. However, the Gregg manual is one book that I've used since I took an editing course in college. It is tabbed for ease of use, and it helps with everything from how to talk about more than one sister in law (it's sisters-in-law) and where to use a comma (there are over 60 comma rules present here). Everyone in my school building has also become dependent on this book. When someone comes to me about a style question, it is the first reference I go to. I find it thorough and easy to use. A must have for any graduate student!

  • Gregg Reference Manual

This manual has helped me write my resumes and cover letters for my management class. it has made everything clear and concise and very easy to follow.
