About this product

Product Information

On St David's Day, 1927, 52 miners died in a gas explosion at the Marine Colliery. When the Prime Minister, Stanley Baldwin, arrived on the scene to bring condolences, he was shouted down by cries of murderer. The appalling working conditions and the Marine Colliery tragedy sparked off a wave of protest and led to a groundswell of support for the South Wales Miners' Federation, otherwise known as The Fed.

"The SWMF was almost unique among British unions in that it dominated not only the working life but also the leisure, cultural and even religious activities of the Welsh coal valleys. . . The book then is really more than an orthodox union history. It is the history of a society that experienced all the drabness and desolation of the depression. It is detailed and marvellously evocative." - Times Higher Education Supplement, "The SWMF was almost unique among British unions in that it dominated not only the working life but also the leisure, cultural and even religious activities of the Welsh coal valleys. . . The item is as described and works! I'm very happy with my purchase and definitly reccomend this seller as I could easily see myself buying from them again. The only qualm I have is that they sent it in a thin cardboard/paper envelope that offered no water proofing of any kind, luckily the item arrived with no damage but the cd itself was loose in the case and the case was itself loose in this cardboar paper envelope with no additional padding or protection. Could work on packing stuff better.

The item is fine but the packaging is terrible considering how far it travelled. Also they are listed as Us seller but it’s shipping for the Uk - this is why it took weeks for me to get the item. If I would have known before that it would take that long I would be as upset as I am now. When I reached out to them they did not mention it and I found out on my own. I reached out because I was concerned that it had been a week and no movement.
