About this product

Product Information

Now a major motion picture A Man Called Otto starring Tom Hanks! #1 New York Times bestseller--more than 3 million copies sold! Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon--the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell." But must Ove be bitter just because he doesn't walk around with a smile plastered to his face all the time? Behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness. So when one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove's mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul. All of which will change one cranky old man and a local residents' association to their very foundations. Fredrik Backman's beloved first novel about the angry old man next door is a thoughtful exploration of the profound impact one life has on countless others. "If there was an award for 'Most Charming Book of the Year,' this first novel by a Swedish blogger-turned-overnight-sensation would win hands down" ( Booklist , starred review).

Seller absolutely, stubbornly refused to communicate with me on the item. I bought it anyway because it was a good price. I sent several messages that went unanswered. So sad. Other than that the shipping and condition was good. The packaging poor and I was very surprised it wasn't damaged. No padding just 2 thin plastic bags.

    Loving a Curmudgeon

This book is so wonderfully written that it captured my heart. Ove's story is told in such a way that you cannot even begin to understand what will happen next. The way you find out about his wife is uniquely written and you can't help but ache for Ove. The cat on the cover is only part of how Ove's life is turned upside down with his new neighbors. I'm keeping this book because I know I will want to read it again someday. It's simply a beautiful love story.

Don't waste your money on this book!

I bought the book based on other readers' reviews. Only reading the first couple pages, I found it was boring. Ove is just an sad stubborn man who had lost his wife.

  • Slow to Build but Worth the Wait

This book starts out slowly and after a few pages I was wondering what I had gotten myself into. Ultimately, it is a satisfying and heart-warming take on life. The ability of the author to convey humor and humanity, in a natural way, while not being heavy-handed, is wonderful!

  • GOOD PSYCHOLOGY

Good read. Didn't like the characters when first introduced and just loved them in the end. A good lesson on how people mold and change us. The author knows how to wield words

  • A Man Called Ove

The book was very good. However, I feel that someone who is dealing with a depressed love one who has considered suicide may find this difficult to read in the beginning.
