I use YN300 LED video flood lights continuously for hours at a time
They just work. If you do not already have NP batteries, buy these and you won't look back. I started off by buying the OEM S.O.N.Y. NP-950 , 960 and then the 970 batteries because what could be better than the OEM NP batteries that "everyone else" is trying to be. Well,,,, I wasted a lot of money and time buying those OEM batteries. If you are "NOT" constrained by physical limited space (ie.. inside of a camera or a placement that is specifically made for an OEM ), don't waste any more time or money on OEM batteries. These NP-F990 batteries are taller and in height which will NOT allow them to fit into a camcorder or anything else that has a snug fit... You have been warned... I use them on the back of a light and size is not a factor. I have about 15 OEM NP-F970 batteries I can sell ... They just work. If you do not already have NP batteries, buy these and you won't look back. I started off by buying the OEM S.O.N.Y. I use these 990's as my primary batteries and the OEM NP-970 batteries are my emergency backup batteries. I have more OEM batteries at my office than I do in my light kit. These NP-990 hold a "much longer" charge for my LED lights. I do video coverage at various locations and most of them are dark venues. Stated another way, most venues are not designed with HD video coverage in mind thus not providing sufficient lumens to get your camera from being wide open at 1 1/60 at 2.4f or greater. If your camera has a fast lens at 1.8, you wouldn't be reading this review.... I use anywhere between 3-10 YN300 lights at one time and usually I have to leave them on full power 3-4 hours continuously. It sucks to have to leave your camera and go into the balcony to change out a battery that is dying thus not giving out full Lumens. I strongly dislike needing to walk across the wedding reception or conference room just to change a battery that was lighting up the back of the room so that it won't be just the tables in front of me that are illuminated. Yes,,, I paint the room with light. I move around way more than I should in the 1st place, I don't need to add additional movement unnecessarily. For those of you who are going to ask me, "Why don't I just plug my YN300 lights into the wall?" I have two words for you... Law Suit... I work in California. This is a sue state. If someone trips over my power cables, I will be deemed negligent and I will be S.O.L. NOTE.. It Bares Mentioning... Because these batteries hold more energy than the NP-970 batteries, they also take a lot longer to charge them too. That is why you should buy several. At times, I have back to back assignments. There is no way you are going to have time to charge these batteries over night (assuming you finished you assignment and get home around 11p) and be at your assignment the following day say around 3p. These batteries take forever to charge... But who cares. I am not buying them for the charging aspect of it. I am buying them for the run time aspect of it. IJS
